In this assignment I explored and investigated the theme ‘habitat/ sense of place’. In this project I had to make and develop ideas for an outcome to do with EDF. I was able to visit one of EDFs branches in Dungeness. During the trip I was able to learn more and develop a clear understanding of what I wanted to do to portray EDF and what I can do to show it in a positive way. Going to Dungeness gave me primary contextual knowledge of what they stand for and what their values are. I also collected some contextual knowledge for the theme habitat. To start of the project I started off with 3 starting points and then decreased it to two starting points simply because only two of them juxtaposed each other and went together. Throughout the whole of my assignment I made sure I focused on my starting points ‘loneliness’ and ‘nature in the city’. I experimented when taking extra example pictures and took pictures of things I believed related to my theme at school as soon as I received the starting points. My pictures came out HD and fluent as they were not blurred. The first image of my on-site shoot consists a bright HUE of green and brown. The light from the sun was projected onto the leaves causing it to be bright and focused. The lines in the image are really curvy and more abstract as leaves are unpredictable and can grow in any shape of form. I was able to then increase my knowledge on photography and increase my knowledge on photo-grams and quick and easy process to taking silhouettes of items and objects I then jotted and explained how this process works so I could show an understanding of photo-grams. My proposal was initially meant to be a rich side of London (Westminster) and a poor side of London (Lewisham). I thought it will be more interesting and unique if I take the pictures in a rich side of London and look for small things that made them look poor just to balance the images out. This was easier and made more sense to take the pictures in one area but different parts as the outcome was commendable. Image 134 consists of movement as it adds excitement to my image and shows action with in a still image. It catches the viewers and makes them wonder if the person is moving and why they are moving. This meant I had to leave the shutter speed on for longer than usual so it could catch the excitement. I noticed that the colours are not balanced as it is wild piece of graffiti so the colours aren’t thought of or planned. The walls do show a lot of repetition throughout the bubble writing. Some images were too bright and showed high saturation. In future reference I will make sure I study the camera and make sure everything is working well including the camera exposure I add. As a whole this has to do with loneliness and depression. Most of my images fit in with my starting point but there were a few that went of topic and just caught abstract and pretty images. My images do connect with EDF especially the pictures of fire because they represent fire and nature the two thing EDF stand for. To improve my proposal I will do more research on the area I am taking the photos in so I know what times are good to go and take my photos and what the rush hours times are. I will also provide myself with a timetable on the times I will visit the area and focus on the main starting points ALWAYS.
